Sandra Says...CMA's

Alright!! The big CMA party is tonight at FINZ from 7-9pm. If you got pre-registered with WIRK to be the grand prize winner, you MUST be present to win tonight at FINZ. We will be sending our winner to the CMA's in Nashville, you will go to the ceremony/show and we will also hook you up with a hotel. Ah, yes...we will even bring you BACK to South Florida! ha! :-)

If you did not get registered to win, that's O.K. too, as we will be getting some of you qualified tonight right at FINZ before the drawing at 9pm. How exciting!!!

Nathan (my husband) and I will be having our first dance together as well, since our DJ did not show up to our wedding reception. I do not have my wedding dress as it is back in MN still, but this is going to be fantastic. Thank-you all for all your emails and calls expressing your wishes for our wedding and also for the dismay at the DJ not appearing.

Can we sue?? I know I know, sue-crazy. It is not that as much as it is how they wronged us. They robbed us of our wedding reception that we can't ever get back. I think I will be looking into that.

I look forward to meeting you tonight at FINZ!

Cheers,
Sandra

Sandra Say's...DJ Didn't Show For My Wedding

O.K., so it seems like something right 0ut of a movie, where the DJ does not show up for your wedding, but it happened to me. Nathan and I were married on Saturday, October 24th at Fort Snelling in St. Paul, MN followed by a reception at the VFW in Hopkins, MN. I spent a year planning and sewing cloth napkins for this party and also, the dance portion. I am a HUGE fan of karaoke and had paid for and booked our DJ for a dance AND karaoke. We were so excited, but as we waited in the hallway to enter our reception hall, we were informed that the DJ never showed up. There were no lights, microphone, music...nothing. We entered the hall and went to the headtable and I had to make an announcement, albeit a little shouting without a microphone, that there was no DJ and please get some food. I then proceeded to the bathroom to (you know!) and CRY. To back up a little, as we got to the headtable, you could hear a pin drop it was so quiet and I am guessing everyone was waiting for me to melt down up there. I didn't, I held it in because what else could I do? The DJ company is national and been in business for over 24 years and I thought everything would be great. It wasn't. I STILL have not heard back from the DJ as to why he never showed or called, but the company itself did nothing to rectify the situation during my wedding. Not even an apology. We didn't get a backup DJ, nothing. So, we didn't have karaoke, a toast, father/daughter mother/son dance, bouquet toss, garter toss, chicken dance, dollar dance, limbo, introduction, nothing. Seriously, anything else could have gone wrong and I would have went with it. No food? No problem, order pizza. No flowers? Big deal, no one will notice, no limo? Ha, we would have taken a lift from family and friends...but come on! NO DJ? No music? No dancing? No party??? Wow. I cannot even express enough my hurt. We paid for extra time with the photographers to get pictures of our evening, but there wasn't anything to take! We weren't doing all the things we paid for. Ah, yes. Not just a deposit for the DJ/Karaoke. We paid in FULL beforehand, months ahead of time.

So, here it is. Other than a refund, can we sue? The emotional stress/distress from this is crazy. The pictures we paid to have taken couldn't be taken. Just. Wow.

Well, I AM married and happy to be so and happy to be back home and THANK-YOU...to all of you who have expressed concern over what happened without the DJ showing up on our wedding night. All the invites for our dance and options for flowers and a cake (YUM! Yes, Please! lol) are very appreciated.

Thank-you to FINZ for hosting our CMA party tomorrow night from 7-9pm, as we draw a winner to fly to Nashville to the CMA's and also for decorating with my wedding colors and having Nathan and myself to do our dance tomorrow night. Yay! We will finally get 0ur dance with Joe Cocker "You are so Beautiful."

Please stop out tomorrow night (Wednesday) from 7-9pm at FINZ as we will have an opportunity for you to qualify for the drawing to send you off to the CMA's. So if you do not get qualified on the air with The Jeff Elliott in the Morning Show tomorrow, please stop out to FINZ as you may get qualified!!!!

Cheers!

Sandra Says...Military Hotspot at Disney!

Wow, thanks to Marie, a listener who phoned in this morning about a sweet deal for military personnel and their families. My fiance, soon to be husband this Saturday, Nathan, has been in the service for 10 years now and I don't think he knew of this either. It is a resort in Orlando at Disney. It is called "Shades of Green." It is a resort with a golf course, and the cost is based on your military rank. For example, Marie said her and her husband first went to Shades of Green back when he was an E-4, and the room was only 55.00 a night and discounted passes for 3 days into Disney. All the details, requirements, booking and everything you will ever need to know about this awesome resort is found at: www.shadesofgreen.org

FINALLY! A wedding song for our first dance has been chosen! Nathan and I will dance to Joe Cocker; You are so Beautiful. It took a LONG time to figure it out but a decision as been made. Thanks for all your ideas and calling in to vote on my top 3 this morning.

My top 3 choices were:

Anne Murray: Can I Have This Dance
Mama's and the Papas: Dream a Little Dream
Joe Cocker: You are so Beautiful

The winner? JOE COCKER! Yay! Whew, so glad that 3 days before the wedding the song was chosen. That was cutting it pretty close. I fly to MPLS/ST. PAUL this afternoon and the wedding is Saturday, and I will be back on Tuesday. I will try and get some video to put up on our website, if you would like to see the festivities. If there is snow on my wedding day, I will be sure to capture that as well...lol

Have a wonderful weekend and see you on Tuesday!

Cheers,

Sandra

Sandra Says...WEDDING SONGS Narrowed Down?

(Picture on left is Nathan and I... right after he returned from overseas this past February of 2009)

O.K. tomorrow after the show, I hop a plane to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN) for my wedding on Saturday and we still (Nathan and I) do not have a wedding song picked out for our first dance. I am over-thinking this, I know it! I mean, we have a cake-cutting song picked out, but not a first dance? I did not think this decision would be so hard! Now, if we go with a 'last minute decision' on a song, which this practically is, we run the risk of the DJ not having the song. Oh boy. Now what? Jeff, Bill and Tiny all gave me a kind shove into the decision making mode by saying, "You WILL narrow this down and pick one tomorrow!" I think I am actually causing anxiety in the guys who are now worried about it, LOL.

So, no matter what, come Hell or High Water (YES! It's fun with cliches!) I WILL have it narrowed down to 3 or 4 songs by tomorrow morning. Bless you all for such kind words, supportive emails with great song suggestions. I appreciate you so much. If I have not responded to your email yet, please forgive me as the wedding stuff has really got me crammed! I will get back to you! If you have any last minute ideas, you can send them to: sandra@wirk.com
Thanks!!!

Whew! Enjoy 'The Worlds Slowest Race' at BrandSmart Friday and GO SLOW...GO REALLY SLOW....BE THE SLOWEST driver in a street legal vehicle and you win passes for all 3 days at Homestead and also the BIG WINNER, er, shall we say,LOSER, will also get what I like to call "backstage passes" which are garage passes from NASCAR. You cannot buy these!!!! It is a behind the scenes look! There is NO cost to sign up and participate, just call (between 6am-10am) 800-919-1079 or send an email to: tiny_wirk@yahoo.com

Talk to you soon! See you after I get married! (Back on Tuesday!)

Cheers!

Sandra Says...BALLOON BOY A HOAX!

We really do dislike having to say...."We told you so..." But I am sure you were thinking the same thing as more details surfaced about the 'Balloon Boy' who was thought to have flown away in a homemade hot air balloon. Officials and every news station within shot were covering this. We thought this little 6 year old boy was trapped or had fallen and it turns out to be....A HOAX. Yes, a hoax. What should happen to these parents? Read on below:

(Courtesy of the Hollywood Wire)

Police: 'Balloon Boy' a Hoax to Sell Reality Show
Investigators say they've found evidence that Richard Heene and an associate planned the "balloon boy" stunt to publicize a reality show he was developing. Photos: Hollywood Fathers and Sons Prosecutors in Fort Collins, Colo., are weighing felony charges against Heene after police analyze e-mails that show Heene discussing the stunt months ago with a man named Robert Thomas, according to the Associated Press. Thomas sold his story to Gawker.com, claiming Heene launched the hoax to land his own reality show in which he played a mad scientist who does experiments. "This will be the most significant UFO-related news event to take place since the Roswell Crash of 1947, and the result will be a dramatic increase in local and national awareness about The Heene Family, our Reality Series, as well as the UFO Phenomenon in general," according to Heene's proposal.

So far, the arrests have not been made, but I am sure the DA is using up all the ink available to tack on as many charges as possible, as well he should! Keep listening to the Jeff Elliott in the Morning Show and right here for the latest...

Kate Plus 8 on a Date continues tonight at Sinclairs Ocean Grill at the Jupiter Beach Resort and Spa. Kate will start blogging about her dates and we will share them on our website with you! So keep looking back to see pictures of the guys and how things went!
Also, I must say, if you have not eaten at Sinclairs, you are missing out! Being new here, I am tend to gravitate toward restaurants I see as I am driving by as new places to check out. Sinclairs is a place you will not accidentally drive by, as it is neatly by the Ocean on Jupiter Beach, but easy to find! The food is PHENOMENAL! Chef Gordon Ramsey would be proud to dine here. The waitstaff is awesome, the food is to die for and I am excited to go back tonight. I had Lobster Ravioli and Lobster Bisque. The atmosphere is so relaxing and elegant all at the same time. If you have not had a chance to check it out, do so! You will fall in love!! Here is there address and number:

Sandra Says...I floated away holding a balloon!

This morning while enjoying the beautiful sunrise, I floated away from the CBS Radio building holding a balloon and of course, the Brad Paisley tickets! I floated over I-95...floated by windows, trees and traffic! I finally landed safely in front of the Roger Dean Stadium...with the Brad Paisley tickets still safely in tow...and whew, a listener guessed where I was and got the tickets! My goodness, what a journey!

Now, that was the last pair we had to give to you; HOWEVER...:::insert breaking news story music here:::Dina B has a pair of tickets and meet & greets...but you have to join her tonight at Luckys for your chance to win. Will you walk away with the meet & greets and tickets to the show? Gotta get to Lucky's to find out!

GUYS! If you want to go out on a date with our "KATE" you must email me a picture and a short bio to: sandra@wirk.com We will send you to Sinclairs Ocean Grill at the Jupiter Beach Resort and Spa...it should be a great time!

Have a great weekend and hope to see you at the Brad Paisley Concert!!

Sandra Says...Kate's First Date...

Tonight is the big night! Kate has her first date of 8! Will she find love? We shall see! I can tell you this, she is a VERY sweet woman, great job, loves her family and is anxious to meet new people as she is new to area. Check out her bio under our staff page on this website www.wirk.com

Jeff Elliott will be meeting the couple tonight at Sinclairs Ocean Grill at Jupiter Beach Resort and Spa...I do believe there will be a video camera involved with this date (but not until the end) so you can follow Kate on her dates! We will also be talking to her over the phone during the Jeff Elliott in the Morning Show as well. We are not 'producing' these dates like reality T.V. we sending two people on a date and leaving them alone and wait and find out how it went. :-) Exciting!

The BEST audio EVER????

O.K. I learned something new about myself today, and all it took was Jeff, Bill and Tiny to point out my radical statement. "...The Best EVER..." I tend to say "That was the Best ever (fill in blank) to things I enjoy. Well, it turns out that not everything can be the BEST and of course, that is true. Perhaps it is just slang, but lets say this: 'The Internet is Down' piece we played this morning IS hilarious; however, not the BEST PIECE OF AUDIO EVER!

It is a hard piece if audio to find, as everytime it gets loaded onto youtube or other such video sharing sites, it gets removed, so I can't share it right now. If I find a good link that is safe, I will post it. But the audio clip portrays a scene where the people of Southpark wake up and the internet is GONE. Just, gone. It was rather funny and it makes you wonder what you would do if there was no internet! Wow. Well, you would not be reading this blog for one. Yes, we were fine without internet, but now, as life moves forward and technology has expanded, we have intertwined the internet into our lives where without it, we would be lost!

What are your thoughts?

Cheers!

Sandra Says...Wedding Songs??

Well, it is now winding down to my big day...October 24th I will be getting married and still no choice on the song Nathan and I will dance to for our 'first dance.' I am getting a a lot of suggestions from you, THANK-YOU! I am considering all of them as I am still deciding, and the more to chose from, the better. :-)

Here are the recent ideas/emails I have received:

Sandra,
this is a true story my friend picked the song Always by Bon Jovi (listen to it). But the groom deiced to change the song to lets get drunk and screw by Jimmy Buffet. I know she wanted to cry but all she could do was laugh her hinnie off. then he dedicated her song and dance to her. this is a lesson to be learned watch your man. Confirm , Confirm!!!!
************************************
Good Morning Sandra, I have been listening to you talk about trying to pick your wedding song. Of course this is just a suggestion. I think a perfect song for you would be “When I say I do” by Clint Black and Lisa Hartman-Black. It is a truly beautiful song that is sung by two people that love each other and they are still together. What I like the most is that it speaks of reality and true love making it through life TOGETHER and what it means to say I do. It has been a pleasure listening to you since you have come on board the morning show. Keep up the good work!!!
************************************
Hello Sandra:Welcome to WIRK, you're a great addition. I have two songs for you "When you say nothing at all by Allison Krauss OR Once in a lifetime by Michael Bolton.
Good luck!

Sandra, for your wedding song, how about "My Best Friend" by Tim McGraw? Best of luck in finding one and hope your day is a beautiful one!

Sandra Says...More Brad Paisley!

I wanted to say "summer concerts are the best" because of the beautiful Florida weather that I am not used to yet, and it dawned on me that it is actually FALL! I guess I need to get used to the fact that the sun shines and it almost always feels like summer in South Florida! I talked to my fiance, Nathan, last night and of course, it snowed in Iowa. I then talked to my dad, and he mentioned that is snowed in Minnesota. I am so used to the snow and cold, and this will be my first Christmas without it! I am actually looking forward to it. Now all I need to do is get more summer gear! I have a lot for cold temps.

So, while summer concerts are the best, South Florida Concerts anytime of the year are the best! Brad Paisley this weekend with Jimmy Wayne and Dierks Bentley. This is the last leg of this tour (I guess Brad just added a few new shows to the bill) and Brad, as we hear it, is quite the practical joker. According to stories, he has let chickens loose on stage during Kelli Picklers set, locked Jack Ingram QVC piping, like a cage and gave him a hacksaw to get out while performing and I am sure there is more!

I wonder if Brad will be doing anything fun this weekend? I am super excited about seeing the show, and really anxious to see what Brad has up his sleeve! Yes, you can still get tickets, and we hope to see you there. Jeff, myself, Bill and Tiny will be broadcasting from 4pm-7pm. ALSO, you can win tickets to the show when you listen to The Jeff Elliott in the Morning Show tomorrow morning!

Jimmy Wayne is opening up his tour bus for a private acoustic performance of 2 songs for one of our listeners and a guest as well. We qualified people today and will qualify more tomorrow for this chance to hang out with Jimmy on his tour bus. How cool!! (Just do not ask to use the bathroom. lol)

Just a lot going on and it is all fun! We are getting ready to send our 'Kate' on her dates (hopefully this week) and we are still accepting submissions from guys who would like to be her suitor! So, if you are a single guy between the ages of 25-40, please send a brief bio and your picture to: sandra@wirk.com

If you want to read about our Kate Plus 8 on a Date, please look under our STAFF page under "The Jeff Elliott and the Morning Show." You will see a picture of Kate and her bio. We will cover the dates!

Cheers!

Hi Sandra,
10-7-2009

I wanted to make a few comments on your blog. 1st, in regards to the wedding song, I have 2 suggestions...Jack Johnson "Better Together" or 311 "Love Song". If you read the words to both of these songs, they are great. I am getting married in November. We are going to play both of these during our reception but we are going to dance to U2 "Beautiful Day" because it is special to us. I hope your day is all you want it to be. Make sure you actually enjoy it!!!
My 2nd comment is in regards to the dumped bridesmaid. I can't believe the "friend" has kicked her out of the wedding. I think that is very cold of her. My question to the bridesmaid would be...Is the relationship more important than the fight (being kicked out)? Only the bridesmaid can make that decision. But in my experience, most of the time the relationship is more important than the fight, winning or being right.

Feel free to use this in your blog. Have a safe trip back for your wedding and a safe trip back to your new home here in south Florida.

Blessings, Erica

Sandra Says...BRIDEZILLA!

WOW! Today a young expectant mother called Jeff, Bill, Tiny and myself to let us in one a little dilemma. Wait, LITTLE is not the word for this one. This is the scoop:

She lets us know that she was asked to be a bridesmaid in her friends wedding, she agreed, and the bride had a 'wedding contract' she needed to sign to be able to participate. WHAT? Yes, apparently there are 'wedding contracts' floating around. In the contract is stated that the bridesmaids were to pay for their dress, shoes, handbag, etc. and were also instructed that they were not allowed to change their hair or GAIN WEIGHT.

Here is her problem: (We didn't get the woman's name! ack! Shame on us!)
She found out she was pregnant, and this obviously goes against one of the brides 'rules' of gaining any weight. As she begins to show a little, the bride has told her she is no longer welcome as a bridesmaid and also will not be reimbursed the money she put in for the dress, shoes and handbag.

Has the idea of 'Bridezilla' gone too far? Since when have we allowed the wedding day to become so self indulgent as to warrant, expect and allow such behavior? I think that we get it pounded into our brains so hard that "it's YOUR day" that we just let things slide. Yes, I agree it is 'YOUR' day, but it does not give a person the right to blatantly hurt others for your own selfish and albeit, shallow needs. Yes, I said SHALLOW. A true friend wold be proud her friend is having a baby, and make it work.

What to do?

She was so dumbfounded when the bride-to-be told her over the phone that she no longer can be a bridesmaid that she did not really have a response. She is now ready for a response, but doesn't know how she should handle the situation.

Should she ask again to be in the wedding? (Maybe the bride was having an 'off' day?)
Should she demand her money back for the dress, shoes and handbag?
Should this (around 350.00) destroy her friendship because her friend is being bridezilla (who normally does not act like this)?

This is a TOUGH one. Many of you called and said that she should picket the wedding, wear the dress anyhow and let other guests know how horrible she was treated and even as far as tell the groom to run!

The only problem I have (regardless of how heartless and shallow the bride is being) is that over this, do you really want to absolutely RUIN someones wedding? I mean, yes, what the bride is doing is so wrong, but to purposely set out to destroy her wedding is a little much in my opinion. Sure, the bride is being ridiculous and by no means am I defending her decision, but at least let the wedding cake get cut before your revengeful wrath ensues!

My favorite suggestion this morning was a woman who said that she should go to the wedding (in a nice outfit) and as the wedding gift, she should wrap up the dress, handbag and shoes. This is subtle sweetness. Perhaps the bride will change her mind and allow her to be a bridesmaid afterall. Maybe the bride is just worried about her taking the spotlight, but anyway you look at it, it brings to mind what Jeff Elliott likes to say..."This Gives Me Tired-Head."

If YOU could share your thoughts/advice/suggestions/stories of your own bridezilla experience/ please send me an email: sandra@wirk.com

PLEASE let me know in your email if I can POST your email and if you wish to include your name (first only) or be anonymous.

Cheers!

Sandra

P.S. I haven't picked out a wedding song yet...17 days till my wedding, and NO, I am NOT being bridezilla! :-P

Sandra Says...

In case we haven't met, I am Sandra Foxx and am so excited to be a part of the WIRK family! I was born and raised in Minnesota (Twin Cities) and have lived there, South Dakota, Colorado and Iowa. My fiance, Nathan, is full time in the Military {Iowa National Guard} and we are getting married so soon! We have 2 cats, {his} Sasha and {mine} Pepe Le Meow. Nathan plans on relocating to Florida when there is an opening to transfer here. So for now, I will fly back to Minnesota to get married and bring Nathan back wit me for a week and then it is the 'waiting game' until he and our kids {cats!} join me in West Palm Beach! I am so excited! I saw the ocean for the first time over the weekend and was in awe. Yes, I know how to swim and have seen water before sillies, just not the ocean! :-) Thank-you for making me feel so welcome and being so nice to me. It can be hard when you are away from friends and family, but am anxious and excited about making more friends here and with how nice everyone has been, it seems like I will be settled in in no time at all. Thank-you!!

18 days until I get married back in Minnesota, and my fiance Nathan and I have not chosen our special song to dance to yet! I let Jeff, Bill and Tiny in on this asking for their help and of course, they said that the WIRK listeners will come through! Thank-you for all the wonderful ideas this morning, and as they came in {songs} I wrote them down to consider. I do not know why we have not chosen our song yet, but I can say that I am for sure over-thinking it. ..."What song defines US as a couple...?" I suppose it doesn't have to be so difficult. Here is the list of song ideas we gathered from you this morning...

  1. Restless Heart 'I'll Still Be Loving You' (Jeff Elliott's song he and his wife danced to)
  2. Shania 'From This Moment' (Bill Adam's song he and his wife danced to)
  3. Aha 'Take on Me'
  4. Atlantic Star 'Always'
  5. Edwin McCain 'I'll Be'
  6. Brad Paisley 'She's Everything'
  7. Clint Black 'When I Said I Do'
  8. Elvin Bishop 'Fooled Around and Fell In Love'
  9. Anne Murray 'Can I Have This Dance'
  10. Larry Graham'One In A Million'
  11. Aladdin'I Will Show You The World'
